Camping in the Sierra State Parks
After being safely holed up at home for so long, its time to get outside and enjoy all the beautiful campgrounds throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin! Before running out of the house, lets consider some helpful information on how to plan a camping trip and how to most respectfully follow Leave No Trace principles to protect our parks, lakes, and wildlife friends!
To plan a camping trip, first look at available campsites and make a reservation. To find a comprehensive list of all open state park campgrounds as of July 13th click here. To make a reservation at a Tahoe National Forest campground click here. Please remember that each campground is different. Visit a campgrounds individual website for specific information on fire safety, RV accessibility and size restrictions, available amenities and recreation activities, climate, water facilities, and what kind of wildlife you may encounter to prepare for potential safety or medical concerns as well as food storage. Before leaving for your camping trip make sure your vehicle, camping equipment, and first aid kit are all in good shape. Within the Lake Tahoe Basin, the state parks that are currently open for tent and RV camping with limited reservations are DL Bliss, Donner Memorial, Ed Z’Berg Sugar Pine Point, Emerald Bay, and Tahoe State Recreation Area. Each state park has different allowable maximum trailer lengths so please check the individual locations website here to see what you can bring. Also just a friendly reminder that all campgrounds are operating on limited capacity so reservations are required and walk ins are not allowed. Other camping options to consider within the Tahoe National Forest and Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit are William Kent, Kaspian, Silver Creek Truckee, Meeks Bay, Goose Meadows, Granite Flat, Zephyr Cove, Nevada Beach, Bayview, Camp Richardson, Camp Shelly, Fallen Leaf, and so many more!
