Flumes were a cost-effective mainstay to move logs to where they were needed. They replaced oxen, horses, steam donkey engine, skids, narrow gauge railroad, etc. The V-flumes were specifically used in many locations in the Truckee region. Besides moving logs and other practical applications, V-flumes also created an early recreational (yet still terrifying) sport of flume riding. Hear the tales of the brave souls who dared to take on this amazing challenge and how it has evolved.
