Sierra Speaker Series: Forlorn Hope Expedition Interview

Join State Park Interpreter Jeremy as he virtually interviews Bob Crowley and Tim Twietmeyer, two of the four-member team of ultra-distance athletes who share a passion for history and aim to honor the lives and courage of the Forlorn Hope members of the historic Donner Party of 1846. Both Bob and Tim are experienced ultra-runners and will share the behind-the-scenes preparation for their challenging 100-mile trek from Donner Lake to Johnson’s Ranch, outside of Sacramento.

The modern Forlorn Hope expedition will depart on December 16, 2020 – the same date in 1846 when 17 Donner Party emigrants set out on snowshoes in a desperate attempt to cross the mountains and reach a settlement near Sacramento, 100 miles away, to seek help. After enduring punishing physical, mental, and emotional hardships, only seven survived…
