A Message from Executive Director, Heidi Doyle

Hello all,

Please see the attached notice below that cause firewood sales to be suspended until further notice. Several California State Parks are impacted by the California fires, including Big Basin which has lost its historic core of buildings. Many of our local State Park employees are now deployed at other units to assist with evacuations and park operations impacted by the fires.  The fires throughout California have been caused by lightning strikes created by an unprecedented heat wave and more lighting is predicted.

Some advice:

  • Have a “ready bag”  and be prepared to leave in 15 minutes with the following:
    • People and pets
    • Your important papers (passport, bank documents, social security card, health cards, etc.). Pro Tip – scan all of these and have them stored in the cloud.
    • Products to sustain you: food, water, medications, face masks for you and your pets.
    • Computers, cell phones and charging cables.
    • Treasured photos and processions
    • Petroleum: Just like winter, it is a good idea to keep your tank at ½ full or more during the fire season.
    • Preplan on a meeting location with your family and loved ones.

Be safe and aware.  I encourage you to install the Placer, El Dorado, Nevada County alerts on your cell phone.  The Cal Fire App is another great resource for evacuation advise and current fire status alerts. Red Flag conditions currently exist locally which means no flames allowed from any source. Period.

Thank you for all you continue to do to provide a welcoming environment to our visitors. We will get through this. On the positive side, the wearing of masks is the best protection against the smoke and we all have one readily available!  Please let me know if you have any questions and BE SAFE AND SMART.

Heidi Doyle
